Borderlands Game of the Year Edition
I bought the GOTY edition of Borderlands less than a week immediately after it was released, and even now I am still thoroughly enjoying it. The kill and loot mechanics work actually well, and you will discover a TON of guns (which I’m sure you know by now). The single player is truly fun and enjoyable, but co-op is where this game seriously shines. Cooperating with your buddies is excellent fun as everything becomes a bit much more difficult. Boss battles are particularly entertaining.
The graphics style is actually a peculiar form of cell-shading and I really really like it. I can see why some may possibly not like it though. The selection of guns is massive, with plenty of distinct variations of fire rates, crucial hit chances, clip sizes, scopes, elemental effects (acid, electricity, fire, explosion) along with the gun types cover all varieties of guns you would anticipate in a shooter. You can find four character classes which consist of: Siren (spell based), Hunter (long-range, and has a pet bird which you could unleash upon enemies), Soldier (jack of all trades), and Berserker (prefers to murder men and women with his fists).
The game does have a number of issues, having said that. Mission variations are somewhat limited, the color palette of environments primarily consists of grey, brown, and.. well.. Far more grey and brown. You will find class variations, but by the end of the game, it does not make a entire lot of distinction which you pick. The skill trees do not offer a very vast split between classes or between the other skill trees of a specific class. 1 dilemma a lot of people have been complaining about (with the GOTY edition) is that the DLC content is not included on a disc. You might have to instead enter the four codes you might be given into the Xbox LIVE Marketplace and download them that way. This could be an obvious drawback for many individuals but for me, it was not an problem.
While the game does have a few drawbacks, I’m still giving it 5 stars based solely on the fact that Borderlands is a hell of many enjoyable to play, and (in my opinion) the most effective co-op game available.
